About Tony Minnis

Tony Minnis finished his career in college tennis as the most decorated Head Coach in the history of LSU Women’s Tennis. He was the first African American Head Coach hired in any sport at LSU. And during his 21 seasons as the LSU Head Coach, Minnis collected a host of accolades that place him squarely among the most respected coaches in the country.

After finishing his coaching career in 2012, Minnis became the host of the groundbreaking TV show “Inside College Tennis with Tony Minnis” which aired on the Tennis Channel and was the first TV show to feature college tennis. And it featured institutions such as Tulane, TCU, University of Minnesota, and the HBCU National Tennis Championships. He then went on to host the TV show “College Sports Weekly”, which currently airs on Fox College Sports. Some of the institutions featured during Tony Minnis’ tenure were schools such as Harvard, SMU, the NCAA Men and the Women’s Tennis Championships along with the “Pray for Luke” and “Hiding Inside the Baseline” documentaries. Minnis’ responsibilities included hosting, writing, and locating the content and stories.

He brings that same fire to Tony Minnis Productions and The Tony Minnis Journal.

THE TONY MINNIS JOURNAL

The Tony Minnis Journal (TMJ) is the brainchild of twenty-one-year LSU women’s tennis coach, motivational speaker and sports documentarian Tony Minnis. After a much-decorated career at LSU, Coach Minnis carried that work ethic with him into a tennis journal called “Inside Tennis with Tony Minnis”, with great success.

Much of his early success and accolades with Inside College Tennis and College Sports Weekly was in building relationships with HBCU coaches and administrators. Minnis Productions was created to serve HBCU institutions with quality multi-media content on their sports and academic programs.

Sporting goods producer and marketer Fila agrees with Coach Minnis and will sponsor six 30-minute episodes of TMJ in calendar year 2024. And Fila’s early support, we believe, will bring strong advertising support from sports marketers and marketers of other goods and services.

The Tony Minnis Journal (TMJ) is the brainchild of twenty-one-year LSU women’s tennis coach, motivational speaker and sports documentarian Tony Minnis. After a much-decorated career at LSU, Coach Minnis carried that work ethic with him into two network television tennis journals, “Inside College Tennis with Tony Minnis”, on The Tennis Channel and College Sports Weekly on Fox College Sports, with great success.

Much of his early success and accolades with Inside College Tennis and College Sports Weekly was in his building relationships with HBCU coaches and administrators. Tony Minnis Productions was created to serve HBCU institutions with quality multi-media content on their sports and academic programs, while taking opportunities to celebrate the staid history of these one-hundred-plus American institutions. These institutions now have over two-hundred-thousand alumni clustered across the US.

Combining athletics along with academics helps to create an outstanding narrative to brand the school’s product and help to sell prospective students as to the positive culture offered and opportunities of which they may not be afforded. TMJ will work to do this with the HBCU’s in the early stages.

Tony Minnis and Harry Cicma will work closely to produce quality programing worthy of reaching a massive audience of viewer’s keen on learning about the HBCU experience, not just in sports but in a wide range of other subjects that make the HBCU experience a vital part of the American story. Great writers, scientists, lawyers, entertainers and other luminaries in their fields have come from HBCUs and those stories will also be a part of the TMJ presentation.

DISTRIBUTION OF TMJ

The Tony Minnis Journal will rollout in 2024 with six 30-minute episodes covering HBCU sports subjects, supported by the university administrations of these institutions. Sporting goods producer and marketer Fila will be the sponsor for this rollout.

Television network distribution of TMJ content will reach about 60 million U.S. households, and also include Fox College Sports Network, reaching 20 million U.S. households.

TMJ will also feature its own YouTube channel offering the same content. The TMJ Channel will include a podcast that will cover content in depth.

And TMJ will be featured on the prominent social media vehicles, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
